But that’s not all – Outdoor Outlet Mall is located in one of the most exciting places to go in Virginia!

You might be wondering why I’m mentioning a restaurant chain, but trust me, Panera is not your ordinary fast-food place. Panera is a cozy and delicious spot where you can enjoy fresh salads, sandwiches, soups, pastries, and more.

They also have a great selection of coffee and tea and offer free Wi-Fi and comfortable seating. Panera is the perfect place to start your day with a hearty breakfast or to take a break from your adventures with a satisfying lunch. You can find Panera locations all over Virginia (so it is not a well-protected secret), but I recommend the one in Richmond for its friendly staff and convenient location.

9. Natural Tunnel State Park

If you love nature and history, then you will love Natural Tunnel State Park. This park is home to a spectacular natural wonder: a 850-foot-long tunnel carved by a creek over millions of years. The tunnel is so impressive that it was once called the “Eighth Wonder of the World” by William Jennings Bryan.

You can admire the tunnel from an observation deck or take a chairlift down to the bottom. You can also explore the park’s hiking trails, picnic areas, camping sites, and historical exhibits. Natural Tunnel State Park is located in Duffield, about an hour and a half drive from Bristol.

Although it is a well-known place (it gets around 8 million visitors per year), you won’t see many people around because the vast area it covers.

10. High Bridge Trail State Park

Another great and lesser-known place to go in Virginia for nature lovers is High Bridge Trail State Park. This park features a 31-mile-long multi-use trail that follows an abandoned railroad line. The highlight of the trail is the High Bridge, a 2400-foot-long bridge that spans the Appomattox River at 125 feet high.

The bridge offers breathtaking views of the river valley and the surrounding countryside. You can walk, bike, or horseback ride on the trail, or just relax and enjoy the scenery. High Bridge Trail State Park is located in Farmville, about an hour’s drive from Lynchburg.

11. Virginia Beach

Last but not least, I have to mention Virginia Beach, one of the most popular destinations in Virginia. But don’t worry, this is not your typical crowded and noisy beach resort. Virginia Beach has something for everyone: miles of sandy beaches, a lively boardwalk, vibrant nightlife, a rich cultural scene, and a variety of attractions.

You can swim, surf, kayak, fish, or sunbathe on the beach, or visit the Virginia Aquarium, the Military Aviation Museum, the Cape Henry Lighthouse, or the First Landing State Park. You can also enjoy some of the best seafood and craft beer in the state at one of the many restaurants and bars along the oceanfront.

I know I promised for lesser-known places in Virginia and now I am talking about Virginia Beach. But it is that good. Virginia Beach is located in southeastern Virginia, about two hours drive from Richmond and it is definitely worth a shot.
